Tuesday night saw seven riders start a road race as one group over two laps (15 miles in total) of what is commonly known as the Borders chain gang loop; our starting and finishing point being at Mount Pleasant, via Swinton Mill and Swinton. The flat course became ever more undulating and twisting as the hammer went down after a moderate early pace. Lester Grant had enough time to raise his arms in the time-honoured salute, ahead of Mike Horne, Robbie Mitchell and Greig Moore. Devrim Turkay, Nick Trussler and Ian Watson – on his season’s debut – trailed in their wake. The following night, Robbie Mitchell (23.23) and Lester Grant (24.24) competed in the first round of the Border Trophy series over Gala CC’s 10-mile TT course. The second of four rounds is closer to home, hosted by Berwick Wheelers on Thursday 26 May, meeting at Hutton. Next club event is the second of the King Of The Mountains series, meeting Duns Square at 7pm on Tuesday 24 May.
